Common Paint Problems

Identify common wall surface issues and learn the simple, effective methods to fix or prevent them using Dove Paints.

Peeling and blistering paint layer on a damp wall

1. Blistering & Peeling

The Cause: Moisture or heat traps bubbles beneath the paint film, breaking its bond with the wall.

The Fix: Scrape away the damaged, loose paint entirely. Sand the rough edges smooth, apply a deep-penetrating primer layer like Dove Wall Sealer to lock out dampness, and then repaint.

2. Chalking (Powder Formations)

The Cause: Long exposure to harsh sunlight and outdoor weather breaks down the paint chemicals, leaving a white, powdery residue on the surface.

The Fix: Wash away the chalky powder completely using a stiff brush and water. Let it dry, then coat the surface with Dove Exterior Primer before applying a high-grade topcoat like Dove Weather Shield.

Deep cracks spreading across a dried out painted wall surface

3. Cracking & Flaking

The Cause: Applying a new coat of paint over a wet layer, or using low-quality paint that hardens, becomes brittle, and splits over time.

The Fix: Use a scraper or wire brush to clear out all cracking segments down to the stable masonry base. Patch deep structural cracks with Dove Wall Filling, sand clean, and apply your final coats.

Uneven paint color fading caused by direct sunlight exposure

4. Fading & Discoloration

The Cause: Intense UV sunlight bleaches standard color pigments, causing walls to lose their original richness unevenly.

The Fix: When painting walls that receive heavy, direct sunlight, avoid economy interior paints outdoors. Always use UV-resistant, premium exterior-grade topcoats to preserve the color tone.
